Louis Vuitton Introduces New Monogram Split at Men’s Spring 2018 Runway Show

Louis Vuitton

THE BRAND’S MEN’S DESIGNER, KIM JONES, IS AT IT AGAIN WITH NEW TAKES ON LV’S FAMOUS LOGO

When it comes to bags, I sometimes feel like I look forward to Louis Vuitton‘s men’s show more than its show for women. Don’t get me wrong—the women’s bags put out by Nicolas Ghesquiere’s team are always a seasonal highlight for me, but men’s designer Kim Jones has a particular way of melding the brand’s signatures with a particular sort of sportiness that makes everything feel fresh, casual and easy to integrate into a wardrobe.

One of my favorite things about Jones’ men’s bags has been his use of color beyond the traditional chocolate and tan of the Louis Vuitton monogram, specifically his mixtures of black, grey and various shades of blue. The brand new Louis Vuitton Monogram Split print, which Jones debuted on his Spring 2018 runway in Paris last week, is the latest in this line of experiments. As you might imagine, the inspiration for the name comes from how the print looks on the bag.

Ghesquiere has played with inverting the traditional colors of the LV monogram in his women’s bags and then using both combinations in the same piece, and here Jones is doing something similar with the Monogram Eclipse color scheme he created: the motifs are the same color in each part of the print, but the background is different, half light and half dark. It’s a lot of logo, but the sporty finishes make that feel appropriate—after all, streetwear’s influence on recent fashion has brought about a full-scale resurgence of the major logo bag. Minimalists will hate it, but Louis Vuitton has never been for them anyway.

CHANEL LARGE SHOPPING BAG

Other Brands

Chanel-Large-Shopping-Bag

Sometime ago, Chanel has discontinued the majority of their classic shopping bags. And up until today, we still cannot forget about the Grand Shopping Tote (GST) and the Petite Shopping Tote (PST). The good news is that Chanel keep inventing new gorgeous tote bags like this new shopping bag from the Pre-Fall 2017 Collection. Let’s talk about that, shall we?

The Chanel Large Shopping Bag is designed with all the iconic components and it could be the next classic that will be available throughout the year. Looking at the pictures, this bag feels really soft, just like lambskin. However, it’s really made with calfskin, which is smooth but durable leather.

The diamond quilting has been embellished throughout the body, creating a chic appearance. And while the top comes with two leather handles, there is also a chain option. The woven chain strap can be used to carry the bag on your shoulder and it runs beautifully through the eyelets. The uniqueness about this new design is the smooth leather detailing that’s been showcased on the top. It fits perfectly to the concept of part leather and part quilting, which is increasingly popular these days. As a final touch, the interlocking CC logo charm has been included and it hangs on the Chanel eyelet.

Because this is a tote bag and will be dropped on the floor occasionally, it also features bottom studs that serve as protection. Style code: A98683, measuring 23 x 34 x 14 cm, priced at $3300 USD, €3100 euro, £2760 GBP, $24400 HKD, ¥393120 JPY, ¥24000 CNY, $4100 CAD via Chanel boutiques.

Now do you think this bag can compete against the GST and PST if they weren’t discontinued?

Kenzo Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear

Fashion

The fashion house Kenzo is well known for its high-profile shows. For their latest Spring 2018  Ready-to-wear Show, the brand overcame everyone’s expectations. There were aerial dancers that rappelled down the wall, performing acts in honor of Kenzo’s muses Sayoko Yamaguchi and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Yamaguchi was a world-famous model who passed away in 2007. The model was very close to the designer. Sakamoto is a musician who composes sensual and synthetic music. These two personalities were in the spotlight for the Kenzo Spring 2018 Ready-to-wear Collection thanks to their major influence in the Asian culture.

The co-creative directors of Kenzo, Carol Liam, and Humberto Leon included a lot of dynamic designs in vibrant colors in the Kenzo Spring 2018 Ready-to-wear Collection. Their goal was to bring positivity on the fashion scene.

“We’ve gone political; we’ve addressed climate; we’ve gone on very topical things, and we wanted to almost step back and really have fun with this collection. “I think we use our platform so instinctively for different reasons, and we just wanted to use it for joy.”

A major part of the collection featured a contrast between two or more prints. Stripesdominated the collection in many forms and fabrics. From coordinates to separates to tiny details like socks, the stripe print was present literally everywhere.

The brand didn’t miss the chance to create fresh eye-catching graphics for its latest designs. Dresses and t-shirts featured vibrant graphics recognizable for the brand. On the top of that, Kenzo added ruffles and sheer organza over some of the multicolored patterned pieces that resulted into edgy and bold designs.

Another print that dominated in the collection was the floral print that came in vibrant colors. Kenzo’s floral pieces were also on the edgier side.

The pieces in plain colors were painted in vibrant hues and featured interesting details and tailoring. They were enriched with ruffles and striped socks. Namely, almost every outfit of the Kenzo Spring 2018 Ready-to-wear Collection featured two colored striped socks. The socks added more, drama to the outfits.
